Our Littlest Longhorn

Saturday Amy and Katie decided to come with us to the UT v. CU football game in Austin because Chris had to work all day. This is the first game that they have been able to come to this year. Little did we know that Katie, at 19 months, is already showing the passion for college football that her Aunt Erin has! She came dressed and ready to party! However, we didn’t count on the temperature being in the damp mid-50’s with a strong north wind, so we had to stop at the Co-op to get some sweatshirts to wear to the game. (You just can’t trust those weathermen, who forecast 71 and calm winds!) Katie had a wonderful time charming all the shoppers, and believe me there were plenty to charm.

On the way to the game we stopped to get a quick sandwich at Jimmie Johns…lots of people to say “Hi” to there, as well.

She’s getting in the cheering mood – just has to swallow that mouthful!

Is that really Jordan Shipley over there? He is wearing the #8. Jordan Shipley has a girlfriend??? 

Oh well…

Why didn’t someone tell me there was such a thing as tailgating? There are just too many people to say “Hi” to, and, guess what? They’re all happy to speak back! (Even the people from CU.)

That’s the stadium???? I better lean over to get a better look!

Oh, Hi Chase, Hi CU girl, Hi Joyce, Hi Sam, Hi Katie, Hi people beside us, Hi people behind us, Hi everyone in the stadium…!!! (She was the belle of the football game, at least in our section.)

Katie, the girl who sits behind us, said to our Katie, “I believe you are really a Texas longhorn!” There’s no finer complement!

P.S. She was not excited to leave and slept all the way home.

How can we look upon the creation and not fall on our knees and worship the Creator when all of nature points to Him? Can you imagine what the new heaven and the new earth will be like?

My Girls – Aspen

On Monday morning we left for a little road trip (in the snow). Erin has worked a lot in Glenwood Springs, so she is very familiar with that part of Colorado. She suggested that we go up there so that we could visit Marble, the place where all the marble for the national monuments was mined. (I even got some marble "souvenirs." More on that later.) Amy had never been to Aspen so we decided we would make a little side trip over there, as well. I was hoping to see the Maroon Bells in all their fall finery.

On the road again… Let me just say that there was a BIG difference in temperature from what we have been experiencing in Texas. In fact, Dan said the heat index in Houston was 110 degrees. Here it was in the 40’s and snowing. The low was 29 and it’s only the first part of October. It looks like winter’s starting early in Colorado. Starbuck's Pumpkin Spice Latte is a good antidote for a chill in the air. It's a dollar more expensive in Copper, though, so you had better be really cold!

The drive down Interstate 70 through the Eisenhower Tunnel and Vail Pass can be a scary drive in the snow for those of us from Texas. It was NOT Erin’s favorite part of our trip.

We made it to Glenwood Springs just as the sun was starting to shine.Katie was happy to be in a warm restaurant eating Philly Cheese Steak (with lots of ketchup). Her Aunt Erin has taken on the job of educating Katie on some of the finer things in life like ketchup and the joys of jumping on the bed! Ha!

These pictures were taken in Glenwood Springs by the Colorado River (and the railroad tracks). We just wanted the pictures of the aspens.

Once we ate, made our requisite trip to Target, and checked into the hotel, we headed on over to Aspen.

This is at the base of the ski run. We got there late in the afternoon and most of the stores were already closing. Some of the stores only open in the middle of the day and close around 4:00 since this is their off season. I was surprised at the restaurants/stores that were closed permanently like
Ruth’s Chris.

We did have to buy Katie a coat because she was freeeeeeezing! I know that I mentioned that Katie is a good-natured baby. She is also friendly. She likes to say "Hi" to everyone she meets. (She inherited all of these good traits from her Grammy.) As we were walking down the streets of Aspen, she spoke to everyone who passed by. Now, I know that they all heard her. They just didn't acknowledge her friendliness. I considered tripping them, but decided they weren't worth ruining my pedicure.
